Through a poll of 5,000 engineering
executives, Syncroness, Inc. has determined top factors which
drive outsourcing
of new product development (NPD) activity. According to the study, 83%
of respondents had outsourced some or all of NPD activity, confirming
that outsourcing of core product development is extremely important in
today’s market.
This paper attempts
to define the various aspects of a relationship with a product
development outsourcing entity. It also defines various organizational
models and attempts to match characteristics of each with outsourcing
types. Observations are based on research findings conducted by
Syncroness, Inc., a leading provider of product development services
within the US industry.
Advances in the capabilities
of jet engines over the last ten years combined with a new Presidential mandate to
replace the space shuttle require the United States Air Force (USAF) and National
Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to cost effectively develop and demonstrate new
and emerging jet engine technologies such as scramjets and pulse detonating engines.
